Psychotherapy Groups


Group counseling can be a powerful and valuable venue for healing and growth.  It is the desire of the group facilitator that all clients reap all the benefits a group has to offer.  Groups are structured to include the following elements.

  • A safe environment in which clients are able to feel respected and valued.

  • An understanding of group goals and group norms.

  • Investment by both your facilitator and members to produce a consistent group experience.

Primary ingredients are mutual respect and a chance to create trust. Another primary ingredient for a safe environment is confidentiality, as group members are bound by honor to keep what is said in group in the group.

We realize that many clients may want to share what he or she is learning about his or herself in group with a significant other.  This is fine as long as he or she remembers not to talk about how events unfold in group or in any other way that compromise the confidentiality of other group members.

Group Types

  • Structured Group: A group that a client may join at specific times the group starts or a module of the group starts. This group type requires a commitment to a group syllabus and structure. Seats are limited.

  • Open Group: A group that a client may join at any time, does not have to commit to a group syllabus or structure. There is no missed appointment fee should a client miss a group session. This group size cannot exceed 12-members.

  • Processing Group: Groups that tend to be an open and supportive dialogue in which clients share and process personal feelings, thoughts, and emotions on a given subject in order to target each client’s personal goals.

  • Skills Group: This group type tends to be more like a classroom in which clients learn coping skill sets. In this      group clients, don’t tend to share much in terms of his or her personal feelings, thoughts, and emotions on the given subject.
